I learned about hoshin kanri when I was coaching at Salesforce, where every employee has a V2MOM. I liked that Hoshin Kanri was explicit about the breakdown of long-term goals (Vision, in the V2MOM) all the way down to metrics and collaborators. The matrix is visually busy, but that's because it's a comprehensive view.
This tool allows a more robust visualization of the information from the V2MOM, showing greater clarity between objectives, activities and measures. Co-owners, with shared V2MOM responsibilities are also clearly visible. Obstacles are at the top of the matrix, elevating them in reviews when they would otherwise be buried and potentially ignored. Other companies have adopted Salesforce's V2MOM, and have promoted it to guests at Salesforce's executive briefing center.
I hope that this tool facilitates more frequent progress reviews, at least monthly, and helps users to operationalize their Vision and Values throughout the year. Here are the 7 Hoshin Kanri steps that would benefit a V2MOM process. For the sake of this tool, the first two steps have been combined, so the V2MOM "Vision" is the "Long Term Objective" in the hoshin kanri matrix. You can manually add lines to the long-term objectives if you choose to create a hoshin kanri with multiple long-term goals.
Values and Methods populate the matrix directly. Enter Long-term Objectives by clicking into the matrix rows.
Fill in your V2MOM fields and click Build to generate your Hoshin Kanri matrix with AI alignment.
